The Nordic Center opens at 9:00am. All rental equipment is due back by 4:00pm. You may head out any time after 9:00am. Most people spend about 1.5 to 2 hours per excursion, but some of our more adventurous snowshoe trails in Breckenridge may take closer to 3 hours. Please plan accordingly and make sure you take water, food, warm clothing, and a fully charged cell phone if you choose to go on our longest trails.
Snowshoeing at the Nordic Center
Snowshoeing can be one of the best and most peaceful ways to visit the wilderness.
It is quiet, easy to learn, and modern snowshoe equipment is surprisingly light and much more efficient than it was just 10 years ago. In addition to our modern rental equipment, the Breckenridge Nordic Center boasts over 18 miles of snowshoe trails in Breckenridge on 1,400 acres of beautiful, snow covered terrain.
How it Works
Whether you wish to take some of our more popular snowshoe trails in Breckenridge, or wish to find more solitude on some of our more remote trails, breathtaking views and the peace of the winter wonderland await you.
Our single-track snowshoe trails are separate from the wide, groomed ski trails. They are mapped, well marked, and easy to follow. Explore a loop trail or make one of our remote historic huts be your destination. Trails vary from easy beginner loops to longer loops that prove to be more challenging even for seasoned snowshoers and everything in between. Before heading out, ask our staff or one of our wonderful volunteers about what trails might be best for you. After your adventure, reminisce as you warm up by our large, wood-burning fireplace and sip hot chocolate or your favorite beverage from our tavern bar.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you can walk you can snowshoe. It can be learned in a matter of seconds, and thanks to our modern, ultra-lightweight equipment, it is more efficient and easier than ever. All participants should wear winter clothing that is light enough for hiking. Most people tend to overheat when snowshoeing, so dress lighter than you would for downhill skiing. If possible, avoid wearing your heaviest, downhill ski layer as these are usually too hot and restrict movement. Don’t forget hats, gloves, sunglasses, and sunscreen. These items can be purchased at the Nordic Center. You will also need winter boots, hiking boots, or water resistant footwear, but if you don’t have good winter boots, we can provide them free of charge.
